The owner-operators of Sunshine Coast Retreat House have a lot to look after in providing a sanctuary for meditative work. Website updates had been put off for so long that it was high time for an overhaul.

Their “cloister” image was a great inspiration for a theme suited a coastal retreat. I balanced the bottom with a surprisingly turquoise Buddha-in-a-bubble.

The site now runs on WordPress, so news and schedules can be updated easily in-house.

WMedia Ventures

WMedia Ventures is a venture capital company which partners with digital media companies. They had a slick new logo that felt young and contemporary. I did a visual design to align with this but also made it a bit funky, with “tech” instantly communicated by the imagery at the top of the page.

We Need a Speech…

Colin Moorhouse has two websites aimed at freelance writers. We Need a Speech is very specific to his own niche, speechwriting. Colin’s old website (see below) was out-dated and very frustrating for him to maintain.

When it comes to web maintenance he knows just enough to be dangerous, as they say, and he’d call me from time to time to bail him out when he’d break his site. I finally convinced him there is a better way. Colin and Wordpress are living happily ever after and he’s extremely excited about the new potential at his fingertips.

I rebuilt his Fearless Freelancing website with the same template to give a similar look-and-feel while keeping costs down.

Youth In BC

YouthInBC.com wanted to give their site a complete facelift and re-build. The old site was built with an abundance of pop-ups and old-style HTML (tables galore!). I created a logo and a new design that feels visually rich without overwhelming the content. Youth’s artwork that can be changed from time to time is a featured element of the design. Great emphasis was placed on usability of the content, especially important given the potential for their visitors to be under a lot of stress.

It’s not quite launched yet, but the entire site has been built on a customized WordPress platform.

Techcouver

“The Web 2.0 Map of Vancouver” displays locations of Vancouver web companies over top of a transit-like map. The design began with a simple idea: “where would people put their transit maps?”. On their fridge, of course!

I created a simple logotype of Techcouver, within a distressed postcard. A retro palette and other fridge paraphanalia finished the theme while being functional.

The site was an instant hit upon launch, prompting a second version of the site with a Flash map that is easily updated.

Innvision

Innvision Hospitality Resource Group engaged Bluelime Media to create a website in keeping with their print branding. In the design I used Andrew Lewis’ hand-drawn elements for texture and to split the header dynamically between the logo and luscious photography. Red and black aren’t always a great choice for the web but the result for this site is bold and effective.

Vancouver Wedding Show

I began this elegant design aimed at brides-to-be with only the logos and a photo from the print campaign. Decorative, textile-like elements were used to add softness and sophistication to the layout.

Shelley Morris Business Services provides modern virtual offices and administrative support. Beginning with their logo I created a clean visual design including imagery that quickly conveys their services.

Great emphasis was placed on content and search engine optimization.

Jody wanted a professional yet minimalist site to showcase her work and writings. I built her site using WordPress for all the content and SimpleViewer for her gallery of images. She’s able to regularly add content to her site, from blogging about recent activities to sharing her sharp-witted poetry.
